About the Model
The Healthy Organization Model is presented in the book ”The Joyful Organization – Health, Disease and Joy in the Life of Organizations” by Imre Lövey and Manohar S. Nadkarni (published by HVG Publisher, 2003). The extended version of the book has also been published in the U.S. under the title "How Healthy is Your Organization?" by Praeger Publishers in 2007.
The “Healthy Organization”
If you ask people about their most valued assets, almost everyone mentions health – yet we can say that compared to its importance we spend little time working on it.
The same can be said about organizations. Hopefully everyone has first-hand experience of what it is like to work in a healthy environment with a dynamic atmosphere, where energies work towards the same end, and efforts enhance each other.
Unfortunately in the course of our work as consultants we see the opposite more often:
- There is a lack of shared aims that could energize and motivate people.
- Members of the organization are not ambitious about innovation, many feel alienated.
- Energies are fragmented in fighting everyday problems, in rivalries of interests, in a blaming atmosphere which blocks initiatives, in the hopeless fight against bureaucracy or because of endlessly procrastinated decision-making.
- There is significant fluctuation, people who find a good offer on the labour market will abandon the corporation.
- All of this leaves its mark on the organization in the form of deficiencies of customer service, a growing number of complaints, a deterioration of market position etc.
When seeing such symptoms we instinctively think that this organization is not healthy. We should examine the possible causes, check what disease the symptoms suggest, and where and how we should intervene. It is of course important to know the healthy, lively, powerful areas where we can find support and which can serve as a good example.
It is this analysis Concordia undertakes, using its proprietary diagnostic ‘tool’: a survey called “Organizational Health and Diseases”. We also have a wide array of tools from the fields of organization and management development which allow us to provide effective and professional assistance in strengthening or restoring the health of an organization.
A Healthy Organization:
- can simultaneously meet
- customer demands,
- the financial needs of the organization and
- the expectations of its employees,
- while creating harmony with its surroundings,
- and being characterized by continuous growth and development.
Would you like to measure how efficiently your organization is functioning?
Would you like to highlight the problems you sense for your superior, your colleagues, and your employees?
Corporate Diagnosis and the Organizational Health Diagnosis can help you do that. Read more about the survey and the diagnosis under the menu item Healthy Organization Diagnosis.
I am interested in the Organizational Health Survey – Please send me further information!
